Build a Caribbean listening map without getting stuck in one language

A useful listening map starts with curiosity rather than a ranking. Choose a few Caribbean places you would like to explore, then leave space for artists whose work crosses borders. The aim is to discover individual musicians, not to make one recording stand for an entire country or language. Start with one verified artist page. A label roster can help establish that you have found the right performer; Sony Music France’s Ricky Bishop page is one example of that kind of starting point. Follow its official links instead of assuming that the first search result or a similar channel name belongs to the same person. Save the source alongside the artist’s name. For each discovery, make three short notes: where you found it, what caught your ear and what you want to explore next. Describe something you can actually hear, such as a change in pace or the contrast between voices. Avoid guessing an artist’s nationality from an accent, appearance or genre tag. If a location matters to your map, verify it through the artist or a reliable biography. Language can be an invitation to listen more carefully. You can enjoy phrasing and rhythm before understanding every word. If you look up a translation, distinguish an artist-provided explanation from an automatic translation or a fan’s interpretation. Do not turn an uncertain interpretation into a confident claim about a song’s message. Leave that question open until a better source is available. On the next visit, choose a different route. Try a collaborator’s official page, a label roster or a festival’s published programme. Rotate your attention deliberately so that places with fewer familiar names are not always skipped. Keep the exercise small enough to give each selection a full listen through an official service. After a month, revisit your notes. Which artists did you return to? Which places remain blank? Use those gaps to guide the next session. Your map should record a changing personal journey, not pretend to measure the most popular artists. This is an original CariFro discovery exercise; it makes no claims about chart positions or artist endorsements.
